The police have arrested a serial fraudster, Usama Tijjani, 31, who specilises in luring young ladies on the pretext of romance to steal their personal belongings.
SaharaReporters learnt that Tijjani reportedly used love overtures to attract hundreds of unsuspecting victims to his hotel room where he robbed them of personal valuables after a night of pleasure.
Active on microblog platforms, Tijjani used Facebook and WhatsApp platforms to harvest phone contacts of his prospective victims.
The young man, who hails from Daurayi in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, operated in Kano and adjoining states.
Hundreds of his victims have reportedly turned up following his arrest to recover their personal effects.
Spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed his arrest on Monday, saying the fraudster was arrested after stealing from three friends of his last victim.
Isah said, "He sends flamboyant pictures of himself through Facebook or WhatsApp to ladies, faking to be a rich man.
"Luck ran out on him when he invited a lady from Katsina State to his hotel room in Kano. He slept with her for the night and escaped with her phone, other valuables while she was in the bathroom the following morning.
"Thereafter he used her phone to lure three of her friends to other hotel rooms in Zaria where he also robbed them of their valuables. We picked him up from there on credible tip off."
The 31-year-old, who confessed to the crime, has been charged to court according to the police.
